About Me
At a young age, it was evident that John Rodas had creative talent. He would often have a notebook in his hand and doodle in class or at home. Inspired by the works of Walt Disney he would draw Mickey Mouse and other characters in exact replicas. People started taking notice of John’s creative mind and would often tell him to be an artist or draw comics. But where did this creative talent come from?
John was born and raised amongst hard-working immigrant parents, John and Teresa Rodas. Both of whom were from Portugal. Through his father, John learned the value of hard work and what it meant to provide for a family. This meant that sacrifices would have to be made if money was to be put on the table. John worked hard throughout much of his young adult life and after a long day’s work, he would escape the stress by drawing and enter the world of imagination. It was at this point in John’s life that he begin to hone in on the skills to create art.
After contemplating the next steps in his life, John set off to study at the prestigious New York Film Academy where he learned the skills to write and wield the lenses of filmmaking. Soon after John got married and for a moment had to set aside his passion for filmmaking and storytelling. This passion became a burning desire that John would carry with him for most of his adult life.
Then, on one fateful day, John discovered that his father was diagnosed with cancer. The news was devastating to John and his family. John’s father was such a strong independent man and for John to see him in such a vulnerable state it was hard to comprehend how this could happen to his hero. John stayed by his father’s side throughout his battle with cancer. It made John realize how precious life can be. As the final days of his father’s life began to pass. John held his father’s hand and promised that he would pursue his dreams of filmmaking. In his honor, John named his film company Rodas Films.
Soon after, John began to work steadily on his passion for filmmaking. Referencing one of his biggest influencers growing up (Walt Disney), “If you can dream it, you can do it.”
Rodas Films is a testament to that statement.
